True to the Japonism trend of the late 19th century, this design is inspired by the works of Edouard Lièvre (1828–1886), a major contributor to this movement within the decorative arts. This wall sconce is thus a bold fusion of a floral-inspired light arm—typical of the early 18th-century Louis XV style—and a Japanese-style dragon, in the spirit of Edouard Lièvre’s works. It consists of a base from which five arms extend, mimicking foliage intertwined with oak leaves, topped by a star-shaped cup supporting a poppy-shaped lampshade. The dragon’s body winds its way around the foliage.
