A pair of beautiful gilt bronze two-light wall sconces in the Louis XV style, each of asymmetrical Rococo form, the highly ornamented back plate wrapped in acanthus with flower heads, oak leaves and acorns, emitting two scrolling branches molded with foliage ending in dripstones resembling different flowers. The entire fixture is almost alive with life, with individually shaped flowers and petals and intricate foliage adding to the vibrancy and energy of the Rococo design. The pair of sconces is similar to the designs of Jean-Joseph St.Germain (1719-1791), particularly the use of whimsical elements alongside generously sized foliage to create a dynamic effect. Further comparisons can be made by the similar use of oak leaves, acorns and certain types of flowers.
