A pair of magnificent two-light wall sconces in gilded bronze in the Louis XV style, each featuring an asymmetrical Rococo shape, with a highly ornate back plate wrapped in acanthus scrolls adorned with flower heads, oak leaves, and acorns, from which extend two molded, curving branches with foliage, ending in drip caps resembling various flowers. The entire fixture seems almost alive, with individually shaped flowers and petals and intricate foliage that add to the dynamism and energy of the Rococo design. The pair of wall sconces is similar to the designs of Jean-Joseph St. Germain (1719–1791), particularly in the use of fanciful elements alongside generously sized foliage to create a dynamic effect. Further parallels can be drawn from the similar use of oak leaves, acorns, and certain types of flowers.
