Description

This beautiful wall lamp is a reissue of a model by the famous Parisian bronze artist Delatour Lacarrière. It features large fruit baskets on its bobeches, and the shaft appears to represent the shape of a caduceus.

In 1825, Lacarrière established a factory at 3 bis, rue Sainte-Elisabeth (Paris, France). A simple craftsman, he specialized and excelled in the use of bronze in lighting fixtures. In 1834, he received an honorable mention, in 1839 a bronze medal, and in 1844 a silver medal for a large triangular candelabra, foreshadowing the one presented at the Great Exhibition in London in 1862. He also participated in the design of the chandelier for the Queen’s Theatre in London. From 1851 to 1870, he changed the name of his company several times. Lacarrière, Delatour et Cie (active in 1870) cast and chiseled most of the street lamps, candelabras, and chandeliers for the Paris Opera House, including the one in the auditorium, designed by Charles Garnier, the architect of the Opera House, and modeled by Corboz. At the 1878 World’s Fair, the catalog noted that “their exhibition shows great skill and very pure taste in the lighting of bronzes intended for private homes.” Finally, we owe them the fourteen monumental candelabras on the Alexander III Bridge in Paris, a real tour de force at the time, since the largest of these pieces weighs 667 kg, with a height of 4.50 m and a diameter of 4.70 m.
